Movies - 2009

The next in the series of countdowns: Favorite movies. This list will be much shorter for a variety of factors:

- the presence of two children under the age of 5 in our house
- the weak slate of offerings this year from Hollywood
- the fact that TV has taken over in terms of better quality of product

Could only come up with a Top 5 for 2009 releases, so here goes:

5. Harry Potter 6
Overall a good film, but felt too long, and it was tough knowing the next 2 films wrap up the saga.

4. The Blind Side
Sandra Bullock was great, and it's was a good mix of football, overcoming obstacles, and other life-affirming messages. An added plus: nobody in that family can stand Tennessee football.

3. The Hangover
Easily the best comedy of the year, and a clever way of retelling the bachelor party's events bit by bit. I'll always be on the lookout for a stray tiger in the bathroom.

2. Star Trek
In keeping with the recent reboot theme of James Bond, Batman, Superman, etc., a very brisk and exciting origin story of the crew of the USS Enterprise. One minor flaw with the main plot line, but otherwise the actors fit the roles well, especially Spock and Chekov.

1. Up
Pixar at it again with another rollicking and "up"lifting adventure for all ages. Dug the dog was as good a supporting actor as any human or non-animated character. Adventure is out there!
